March 12 & 13 in California: Copa Pacifica BJJ Tournament

Cleber Luciano Jiu-Jitsu is proud to announce the fourteen Annual COPA PACIFICA (Pacific Cup) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament. This prestigious international event will feature athletes from all across the country and the world battling for the precious cup. All belt levels and age groups are invited to compete. The top two competitors in each division will receive awards and the top school will win the “Copa Pacifica” to proudly display on their award shelf.

Competition will begin 10:00am on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to awards, all competitors the weight in on Friday will get a free T-shirt. Whether you are competing or watching, we look forward to seeing you there!

65.9 Kg and under (145lbs)

April 2 in California: 2011 Lake Tahoe BJJ Open

Join us on Saturday, April 2nd, 2011, for the 3rd LAKE TAHOE OPEN, in Truckee, Ca. Divisions for men, women, kids, and now teams. We will be using our team scoring format. Teams will be limited to 10 fighters per team, and will be awarded for point differentials, submissions, and podium placings. Refer to the rules packet for details. IBJJF rules will apply to individual matches. Along with individual medals, the team trophy will be HUGE!

Early Registration Deadline March 19th midnight.
Registering Early saves you $10 and guarantees you a T-Shirt.

Your registration and payment MUST be received in our office by NO later than March 30th. If you are not registering on line, please note that we must receive your registration March 30th, please allow time for the mail to get to us.

March 5 & 6 in California: World Professional Jiu Jitsu Cup – San Diego Trial

The San Diego Trial for the World Professional Jiu Jitsu Cup will be held on March 5 and 6, 2011. Several Prizes will be given away to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. 13 winners of select divisions will win an all expenses paid trip to Abu Dhabi to compete in the World Professional Jiu Jitsu Cup in April 2011. The No-Gi tournament will be held in Abu Dhabi on April 8 and 9, 2011 and the Gi tournament will be held April 14, 15, and 16. The trials are an option for athletes not wishing to spend money on airfare, food and board.

The San Diego Trial will feature several divisions including categories for Adult Men and Women, Masters, Seniors, Kids, and Teens.

The first World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship event was held in April of 2009 in Abu Dhabi at the Tennis Court Zayed Sports City. Both events were held under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The Chairman of the Championship and Emirates Jiu Jitsu Team is His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Championship events were attended by the Crown Prince, HH Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed, HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Tahnoon, HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Mohamed and HH Sheikh Zayed Bin Mansour in 2010.

Referee’s Certification Clinic

US Grappling is pleased to announce our next Referee’s Certification Clinic on Sunday, February 6th, 2010 at Yamasaki Training Center in Mechanicsville, VA (Richmond area). The clinic will run from 10 AM until 4 PM!

Anyone can observe the class, but we are limiting the number of actual referee candidates. To be considered, you must hold at least a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and must be recommended by another referee, coach, or instructor. You must also have competition experience.

The Referee’s Certification Clinic will cover common issues faced by referees and the proper way to handle such situations, proper scoring, “owning” your mat, protecting competitors, and many more topics. Before the day is through, all candidates will ref live matches, and will be critiqued on their performance. In order to learn to be a ref, one must actually do some reffing!
